In short
- A hot desk is the cheapest professional setup and suits solo workers who value flexibility.
- A private cabin gives a small team privacy, storage and a fixed base.
- A virtual office is an address, mail handling and GST support, with no desk.
- Decide by how often you will come in, how many calls you take and how big your team is.
Most people who walk into a coworking space already know they want to stop working from the dining table or the café down the road. What they are less sure about is which kind of membership to buy. The three common options, a hot desk, a private cabin and a virtual office, solve very different problems. Picking the wrong one usually means paying for things you never use, or missing the one thing you actually needed.
This guide walks through what each option really gives you, who it suits, the trade-offs nobody mentions on the pricing page, and a simple way to decide. We use Arspace's plans in Lal Kothi, Jaipur as a worked example, but the thinking applies to any workspace you are comparing.
01The short version
| Hot desk | Private cabin | Virtual office | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What you get | Any open desk on a shared floor | A lockable room for you or your team | A business address and mail handling, no desk |
| Best for | Freelancers, remote workers, solo founders | Small teams that need privacy | Remote businesses and GST registration |
| Privacy | Low | High | Not applicable |
| At Arspace | ₹6,000/mo | ₹20,000/mo | ₹24,000/yr |
02Hot desk: maximum flexibility, minimum fuss
A hot desk means you can sit at any open desk in the shared workspace. You do not own a specific seat: you arrive, pick a spot, plug in and get going. It is the most affordable way to get a professional setup with reliable internet, power backup and a proper chair, without signing a lease.
Who it suits
- Freelancers and consultants whose work lives in a laptop
- Remote employees of companies based elsewhere who want structure and company
- Early-stage founders still validating an idea
- Anyone who wants a routine and a place to go that is not home
Trade-offs to know about
Flexibility has a cost. You cannot leave monitors or files on the desk overnight, you share the room with other conversations and calls, and your favourite window seat may already be taken when you arrive. If you spend most of the day on video calls, a hot desk alone can get tiring. You will want easy access to a meeting room for the calls that matter.
03Private cabin: your own door, your own rules
A private cabin is a lockable, enclosed office inside the coworking space. You get privacy and a fixed home base, while still sharing the reception, pantry, meeting rooms and the rest of the building's services. For a small team it is often the most efficient step between working from home and leasing a standalone office.
Who it suits
- Teams of two or more who talk to each other all day
- Businesses handling confidential client data, contracts or calls
- Founders who interview candidates or host clients regularly
- Anyone who wants to leave equipment, files and samples in place overnight

What to check before you sign
- Seats, not square feet. Ask how many people the cabin comfortably seats, not how many chairs can be squeezed in.
- Storage. Lockable storage matters more than you think once paperwork and equipment pile up.
- Meeting room access. A cabin is great for daily work, but client meetings often need a bigger table and a screen.
- Room to grow. Ask what happens if your team doubles in six months. Can you move to a bigger setup without starting over?
At Arspace, private cabins start at ₹20,000 a month. They are lockable, with customizable interiors, dedicated storage and priority access to the conference room, on top of everything a hot desk includes. See private cabins.
04Virtual office: a professional address without the rent
A virtual office is not a place you sit. It is a package of services built around a business address. You can print it on your website and invoices, receive mail and courier there and, in many cases, use it as your principal place of business when registering for GST. You keep working wherever you like.
Who it suits
- Remote-first and online businesses that do not need a daily desk
- Companies from other cities or states that need a presence in Rajasthan
- Freelancers who would rather not publish their home address
- New businesses that need an address for registrations before they are ready to rent space
The limitation is obvious: there is no desk. When you need to meet someone face to face, check whether meeting room hours are included in the plan and what extra time costs.
05How to decide in five questions
If you are still on the fence, answer these honestly. The answers usually point to one option.
- How many days a week will you actually come in? If it is one or two, a day pass or a week pass costs less than a monthly plan. If it is most days, a membership pays for itself.
- How many hours a day are you on calls? A few calls are fine at a hot desk. Back-to-back calls, or calls involving sensitive information, point to a cabin.
- How big is your team today, and in six months? Two or more people working together full-time usually outgrow an open desk quickly.
- Do you need an address more than a desk? If registrations, invoices and mail are the real problem, start with a virtual office.
- Do you need to leave things behind? Monitors, files, samples and stock all need a lockable space.
06Combining options is normal
These choices are not mutually exclusive. A common pattern is a founder who starts with a virtual office for the address and GST registration, adds hot desk days once work picks up, and moves into a cabin when the first hires join. Another is a team in a cabin that books the conference room by the hour for client pitches. Good workspaces make it easy to move between plans, so you are never locked into a decision you made on day one.
At Arspace, standard memberships are monthly, with quarterly and annual packages at a discount, so you can change course as your business does. The full comparison lives on the pricing page.
07Try before you commit
Whatever you lean towards, visit before you pay. Sit at a desk for an hour, make a call, check the noise level at the busiest time of day and look at the meeting rooms. A good space will happily show you around.
Arspace offers a free tour of the open workspace, cabins and conference room, Mon – Sat, 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM. Book a visit or call +91 97855 12895.
